8 Email Marketing Mistakes That Are Stopping You Get More Customers...

I teach that you should be sending your subscribers ALLOT of email, but here are eight email marketing mistakes that could actually be stopping you get more customers from your campaigns:

  1. Being boring. I’m placing this at number one because it’s the biggest mistake of all and I want you to remember it. After you write your email, reread it. If it bores you, just imagine what it will do to your readers. Be compelling, be interesting, be funny, be passionate, be crazy – in short, be ANYTHING but boring.
  2. Burying your message. In journalism they call it burying the lead – that is, hiding the most important information deep inside your email instead of placing it at the top.
  3. Lousy personalization. You’ve received emails that said, “Dear ____” or “Dear #firstname#. Gee, wasn’t that swell? Don’t do it to your readers. No personalization is far better than mistakes like these.
  4. Sending only solicitation emails. Sure you want your list to buy stuff, but if you only send “BUY THIS” type of emails, your list will think you only love them for their money and they’ll stop opening your emails. Mix in interesting informational emails with your ads, and surprise your readers whenever you can.
  5. Telling them what they already know. If your message begins with information just about everyone on your list already knows, you’ll bore them into deleting your message before you ever get to the point.
  6. Lack of focus. If the purpose of your email is to sell a product, then don’t make more than one offer in that email or you’ll confuse them into inaction.
  7. Stuck in a rut timing. So you always send out messages on Tuesday and Thursday mornings because somebody somewhere told you that’s the best time? How do they know? Test different days and different times to see what works for you.
  8. Lack of call to action. Don’t tell them to “Click here to learn more.” Be specific on what they can expect to find on the other side of that click and why it’s imperative that they go there now (in other words, what’s in it for them?)

Being boring. Yes, I said this before, but it bears repeating. DO NOT BORE YOUR LIST OR THEY WILL STOP READING YOUR EMAILS. Nuff said : )
